Fairlane.. Change in Plans

African Dhalia sailed at 1300 as scheduled, freeing up Pier 27 for Fairlane.. which she sailed past into the basin.

Jumbo Shipping Vessels are equipped with dynamic positioning, and built to perform sub-sea installations. In other words, they can lift and offload cargo in open water without being tied to a wharf.

Fairlane

Jumbo Shipping’s heavy lift Vessel Fairlane is due at Pier 30 Tomorrow Morning. Jumbo Shipping is a regular caller in Halifax (usually at Pier 9) to load Locomotives bound for Europe. The Differences between European and North American Railways couldn’t be more evident as the load was spotted on Pier 30 this morning. Besides the shape of the locomotives, the different couplers are in evidence, as special adapter cars are required to mate the load with Canadian Equipment. These cars also carry the lifting arms used to lift the cars into the ship.

When Fairlane arrives tomorrow, she will also be carrying Fjord Éternité, an East Isle built tug, bound for Rio Tinto Alcan’s Operations in La Baie. Here is a shot from MarineTraffic.com to whet your apatite.

Update Fairlane is now Due Today at 14:30 to pier 27
