Lyubov Orlova Under control

Huskey Energy is reporting that one of its boats has taken the Lyubov Orlova  Under tow.
Huskey is the Operator of the Hiberina platform off Newfoundland, and contracted Atlantic Towing to provide platform support vessels.

As the Lyubov Orlova was adrift without crew, this would count as salvage, meaning Atlantic Towing could file a claim against the vessel to cover its costs for recovery. Given the vessel was sold for scrap, and is likely uninsured, it likely means it is now Atlantic Towings’ to scrap to recover thier costs.

As of 4 p.m. today, the towed MV Lyubov Orlova was 100 kilometres north of Husky Energy’s SeaRose floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) platform, according to a spokeswoman for the operator.

An offshore supply vessel, the Atlantic Hawk, began towing the previously adrift vessel at 6:15 p.m. Wednesday. As of 10 a.m. Thursday, it was 70 kilometres north of the FPSO platform.

Atlantic Towing Buys Another Boat

Atlantic Towing Announced that it has purchased a newbuild anchor handeling supply tug from JAYA. Though no vessel is specified, the JAYA Supreme, a Wartsila VS 4622 design, is Scheduled for August delivery to Jaya, and Atlantic Towing is looking at a September Delivery.

The as yet unnameed vessel will be the largest in Atlantic Towings Fleet, and also signals a departure of the Rolls Royce UT 722 Design they Have favored in the Past.

The Vessel will be based out of St John’s Nf.

Atlantic Towings Shopping Spree

Atlantic Towings  newest tug Alantic Birch II arrived in Halifax yesterday. She was recently aquired From Thor (See Shipfax), and was immedialy tasked with a siesmic survey off Greenland.

Last September, Atlantic Towing aquired Atlantic Raven, a UT722 Anchor Handling Supply Tug (Same model as thier other AHST’s)

UPDATE: As indicated in the Comments, Atlantic Birch II appears to be filling in for Atlantic Condor, Whos last location appeared to the ISI Shelbune Ship Repair Facility. It sems tha alo of work ha might have ben done in the damaged Scotia Dock is now occuring on the Refurbishd marine railway there.

Atlantic Condor Riding out the storm at anchor. Algoma Dartmouth Tied up at Pier9, to be more protected.

Wind south 40 knots with gusts to 50 in the Approaches. Wind becoming west 45 near noon with gusts to 55 then diminishing to 35 early this evening. Wind diminishing to Northwesterly 20 after midnight A few showers ending near noon.

The Tug Point Halifax, Stationed at the ECTug Wharf for many years is now stationed in Port Hawksbury with the rest of the Svitzer fleet, as a result of the Svitzer/Atlantic Towing Joint venture. Unlike the rest of the Svitzer fleet, She is chartered to Atlantic Towing, and Crewed by them as well.

She returned this morning, with Barge in tow, for the IEL Wharf.
Atlantic Willow is also in Attendance.

SwellMaster and Atlantic Chestnut.

Harbour Development’s (An Irving company) Tug Swellmaster returned to Halifax with the Atlantic Chestnut in tow. Atlantic Chestnut is a St John NB based workboat, assigned to Atlantic Towing, which is also an Irving company – Older Atlantic Towing equipment seems to get passed on to Harbour Development and is Often found tied up at Pier 7, which can be found between Pier 9 and Halifax Shipyard.
