a Bulker with Ramps – TransPine

A unique bulker, TransPine was built to carry rolls of paper. Though it is a bulker, she has a stern ramp and elevator on the Port side for moving cargo.

Once frequent callers in halifax, the Ships stopped coming as the paper business dried up.

Salarium to National Gypsum

The CSL Bulk Carrier Salarium paid a visit to National Gypsum this past weekend. She is a frequent visitor to Halifax. Built to Seaway-max Proportions, she does trade along the North American Coast.

With the Arrival of the Trillium Ships, her days are likely numbered, though since she normally works moving salt – a corrosive Cargo rough on vessels, they may keep her in service of that commodity for as long as possible.

Harefield at pier9 with ice damage

The gear bilk owned bulk carrier Harefield  tied up at pier 9 suffering from ice damage. Divers have been seen working around her since she arrived earlier in the week.
The ship features 2 overhead gantry cranes that fold out over the pier edge and work in a similar manner to shore based container cranes.

Frontier Discovery

Lastweek brought a stopover of the laden capesize bulker Frontier Discovery for bunkers. As a cape size, she is too large to fit through either the Panama or Suez Canals, and is typically restricted to working one ocean, as leaving requires sailing around the southern tip of Africa or South America.

She doesn’t look that large form this angle, but the bridge wings certainly give her away.
