The general cargo vessel Throco Svendborg spent the weekend anchored in the basin, and sailed this morning. She arrived from Baie Comeau, but gave no destination when she sailed.
Built in 2008, by Honda Heavy Industries in Japan, she is registered in Hong Kong, and was one of the first newbuilds for the Thorco Fleet, and is named after the town where Thorco Shipping was founded in 2003.
Fednav’s ice-breaking bulk carrier Nunavik is due at Sheet Harbour. She will pick up a pilot off Halifax, and proceed up the coast. she will load mining equipment in Sheet harbour, before sailing North.
As a newbuild, she stopped in Halifax on her delivery voyage in in march 2014, and made the first commercial unassisted voyage through the northwest passage to china.

Another general cargo ship – Ocean Crescent has tied up at pier 9C. A great pier for visibility, you can see exactly whats going on – which in this case is not a lot.
US Flagged, and Homeported in New Orleans, She sailed from Houston, and may have additional KONE overhead cranes for the shipyard. Built in 2002, she features 2x 200ton Lattice boom cranes which give her a somewhat unique look.
She is owned by Intermarine, and managed by Crowley

Having been announced, and in planning for the last 2-3 years, the Hibernia Express undersea cable is to start construction in March. the route was surveyed back in 2011
2 Coasting trade applications have been filed for Cable Vessels. the CS Deceive will be used to perform the route clearance, pre lay grapnel run and general support related to the supply and installation of the Hibernia Express Cable System. Her work is expected to begin March 10. the CS Resolute will be used to perform plowing, cable burial and testing related to the supply and installation of the Cable System.
Hibernia Express undersea cable is a transatlantic subsea fibre optic telecommunications cable system connecting points in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Cork Ireland and Brean, United Kingdom. The cable will be run from Hibernia Atlantic’s Landing Site is Herring Cove.
The tanker British Integrity arrived this morning from Portland Maine for Bunkers. she is due to sail tonight.
Victoria Bound Hero Class Mid-Shore patrol Vessels CCGS M. Charles M.B. and the CCGS Captain Goddard M.S.M crossed through the Panama Canal Last night.
From Alexandria, they sailed to Miami, then Key West, before anchoring outside the canal.

Maresk Pembroke Arrived on Monday, 2 days late for Maersk’s weekly Saturday stop. On arrival, She took 3 tugs, which is also unusual, and she is still in port today. Maersk Calls are typically a day at the most, and normally shorter.
this suggests there is a mechanical issue with her, and repairs are likely being made.
In a technical briefing with media in Ottawa Friday morning, representatives from Public Works Government Services Canada, the Canadian Navy and Irving Shipbuilding provided an overview of the Arctic Offshore Patrol ship program including the ship’s design and capability, the number of ships to be built and the construction schedule.
The Shipyards contract with the government is for six ships. The build contract is valued at $2.3 billion. Should costs increase due to unforeseen factors, the contract will guarantee the delivery of five ships within the same ceiling price ($2.3 billion). Basically the contract is for 5, but if they come in at a good price, they will build 6.
Construction of the first sections of the vessels – known as initial blocks or production test modules – will begin in June. The shipyard will test its new infrastructure, environment and production processes, with these initial blocks. Cutting of steel for the first AOPS ship is on target for September 2015.
