New Cranes Arrive!

Halifax’s New Cranes have arrived from China. ZPMC’s vessel, Zhen Hua 19 arrived in port today. A good crowd and lots of media turned out to watch their arrival. CBC News at 6 tonight Should have an interview with me on the cranes arrival.

the cranes should take a day each to install. Zhen Hua 19 will tie up at the pier Saturday night and roll the cranes off. They will then relocate the original Crane on Pier 42, to Pier 41, next to its partner.

ZPMC operates a fleet of vessels (All named Zhen Hua ##) to deliver their cranes. they feature low decks to allow the cranes to roll off easily.

Ok Here is the best and latest information.

  • Zhen Hua 19 takes her pilot at noon.
  • should pass Point Pleasant ~12:45
  • will anchor North of Georges Island in Anchorage 5 at ~13:15
  • She will stay there until 1700 Saturday, where she will move to Pier 42 after the departure of Sealand Racer

Halifax ShipYard Improvements

Work is well underway on the shipyard improvements. Parts of the old structure have been Taken down, and foundations for the expanded building and pier are now under construction. the wall along Barrington street is also being repaired.

The Chronicle Herald is reporting:

The arrival Friday afternoon of a couple of enormous $10-million cranes at Halterm Container Terminal Ltd., in Halifax, is expected to create quite a spectacle for harbour watchers.
“It certainly is not the sort of thing you see every day,” Bob Sharp, with Inchcape Shipping Services in Dartmouth, said Wednesday.
“The process will unfold slowly with the ship carrying the cranes initially anchoring off McNab’s Island. I think people should be able to get a good look at them beginning around 1:00 p.m. from Point Pleasant Park,” Sharp said.
Inchcape Shipping is the local agent for the specially designed delivery ship that departed Shanghai with the fully assembled cranes welded to its deck at the beginning of July.

HS Beethoven for ACL

The Containership HS Beethoven arrived yesterday evening for Fairview Cove. She is working for ACL, which is interesting since she is a container only vessel. She is likely filling in temporarily for one round trip, as she does not appear on ACL’s schedule after this voyage.
