Next weeks Council agenda contains an item for DND requesting a Flypast. March 10. For the paying off of HMCS Athabaskan. The good news, is that this paying off includes a Sailpast.

That Halifax Regional Council grant permission for the Royal Canadian Air Force to conduct a low-level flyby, as low as 500 feet over the water, of two CH-124 Sea Kings as they escort HMCS ATHABASKAN during the final sail past on Friday, March 10, 2017 in conjunction with the paying off ceremony.
Is this a firm date? And will she decommission on the same date. I was in the post commissioning crew and would like to be there.
Hope she is preserved as the last of the Tribals as a Cold War Memorial. A group was trying to save her but never heard back from the Government. Would like to see her preserved with the Haida in Kingston, Ontario. The Haida and a World War II era ship named “Athabaskan” share a history. The Haida rescued survivors of the Athabaskan. Would be need to see the 2 generations of ships preserved next to each other with the story that binds them together.
