Federal Oshima arrived early this morning to load grain at pier 28. Depending on weather it will likely take a few days to load.

Container Line Shakeup
Several Pieces of News have occurred recently with Container lines. How they will affect Halifax is yet to be seen.
- CMA-CGM purchased APL, and announced APL’s withdrawal form the G6 Alliance in 2017. G6 Currently calls in Halifax, with APL vessels in the Rotation. CMA-CGM also Calls as part of the Oceans 3 Alliance.
- Hapag Lloyd and UASC are in Merger talks. Hapag Llyod has been a long Caller in Halifax and is a member of the G6 Alliance. UASC are members of the Oceans 3 Alliance with CMA-CGM
- G6 has announced a new service, from Asia to the US East Coast via the new expanded Panama Canal.
Fire Aboard HMCS Toronto at ISI
Last night a fire was extinguished aboard HMCS Toronto. The Toronto is currently undergoing FELEX upgrades in the Graving Dock at Halifax Shipyard. It is now believed a Powertool battery battery failed, causing the fire.
The fire was reported to be minor, but hard to reach, and located 3 decks down. After it was extinguished, the ship was ventilated. There was no one aboard at the time, and no reported injuries.2 people were sent to hospital as a precaution.

Not often seen, the unit is used to run cars through the unloader at national gypsum.
Nova Star Bankrupt – and other Yarmouth ferry updates.
Word is Nova Star Cruises has filed for bankruptcy. Trustee Deloitte Restructuring says the company went bankrupt April 13th. As of today, the Boat appears to be running a Ferry service between Algeciras Spain and Tangier Morocco. It appears to still be operating as the Nova Star, But may be on temporary fill in duty.
UPDATE: A list of Creditors was Released, as well as a statement of Assets. Among the people they owe money too are Various AAA Chapters (Presumably advertising) $512 to the Africville Heritage Trust, Thousands to Jost and Benjamin Bridge Wineries, 1500.00 to Tall Ships Art Productions, 4000 to an Ariel Photographer. 51,000 to Grant Thorton. 33,000 to the Public Affairs Institiute, 37000 to the Town of Yarmouth, 10000 to LG Trask. 139,000 to the Boston globe. 1.2 million to Fleet Pro Ocean, who provide ship management services, and 12 million to ST Maritime, for what are presumably charter payments for the boat. In short, it looks that they stopped paying their bills a few moths ago. most appear to be for Advertising costs, and the boat itself.
In other Ferry News – The USNS Puerto Rico Arrived at the shipyard in Charleston for conversion to be the new Yarmouth ferry last week. Though she took a USNS name, she was never put into service with the Navy, and likely retains her fit from her Hawaii Superferry Days.
Transporting Riser
The Scandi Flora has been Shuttling Riser from Pier 9 to the Stena Icemax. Riser Arrived in two trips, The First with Noranda Madeline and the second a BBC vessel a week later.
The riser arrived as a series of pipes, and the buoyancy jacket was added on the pier.
Mont Blanc
The BBC Mont Blanc arrived today with a deck load of parts of something – likely more of the Cement Plant Being Constructed in Quebec. She tied up at pier 30 just before 1800, forward of the Asian Moon.
Mont Blanc is of course a problematic name for a vessel in Halifax. Recall it was the Mont Blanc colliding with the Imo in the narrows that caused the Halifax explosion. The BBC Mont Blanc is 125m in length vs the SS Mont Blanc 98m length.
Asian Moon for Nirint
Asian Moon made her second stop in Halifax last night, with a load of Nickle Sulfide from Mariel Cuba. The Asian Moon was built at Jiandong Shipyard Wuhu, China in 2006. at 148m in length, she is typical of the general cargo Vessels that frequent Halifax.
In front, framing the ship are A Tenberg Ships Tractor used for unloading trailers from RO-RO vessels, and an Ottawa Yard tractor used for pulling Container Chasis. Both are owned by Logistec.
USS Hampton, US navy Sub visits Halifax
Word from MARLANT is that the visiting US Sub is the USS Hampton. A Los Angeles Class Fast Attack Sub, She was launched in 1992, and is named after four cities: Hampton, Virginia; Hampton, Iowa; Hampton, South Carolina; and Hampton, New Hampshire.
She is Home-ported at Naval Base Point Loma in San Diego, and arrived after a 5 week deployment in the Arctic. She is tied up at Shearwater.
US Navy Submarine Due tomorrow.
A US Navy Submarine is Due tomorrow Morning. The Pilotage Authority is listing it as a US Naval Vessel, and Since it is tying up at jetty NA (Shearwater) we know its a Nuclear Powered Vessel.
